Practice Makes “IT” Better

(3 customer reviews)

“Cancer and the mess that comes with a cancer diagnosis were now a part of my life. I couldn’t change that. I did have the power to change how I thought about it. I made a conscience decision to trust the word of God. Practicing my “it”. FAITH.”

Description

Breast cancer is a disease in which cells in the breast grow out of control. There are different kinds of breast cancer. The kind of breast cancer depends on which cells in the breast turn into cancer.

Breast cancer can begin in different parts of the breast. A breast is made up of three main parts: lobules, ducts, and connective tissue.

The connective tissue (which consists of fibrous and fatty tissue) surrounds and holds everything together. Most breast cancers begin in the ducts or lobules.

Breast cancer can spread outside the breast through blood vessels and lymph vessels. When breast cancer spreads to other parts of the body, it is said to have metastasized.

The most common kinds of breast cancer are—

  • Invasive ductal carcinoma. The cancer cells begin in the ducts and then grow outside the ducts into other parts of the breast tissue. Invasive cancer cells can also spread, or metastasize, to other parts of the body.
  • Invasive lobular carcinoma. Cancer cells begin in the lobules and then spread from the lobules to the breast tissues that are close by. These invasive cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body.

CANDID

I felt a little rock at the top of my right breast. I kept this little rock to myself for a week or so and then I told my husband. He immediately encouraged me to get it checked out.

TRANSPARENT

I did not follow the recommendation to do a monthly breast exam. Fast -forward to August. 6 months had passed, and my husband asked me if I was keeping up with my breast exams. I wasn’t. I reluctantly agreed to do the self check that evening just to satisfy him. I was certain there wasn’t anything to be concerned about. To my surprise, this little rock wasn’t just a little rock anymore.

SINCERE

My father and I were watching TV at about 3 AM and a commercial for the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) came on. My dad suggested that I try CTCA . I felt like it was God’s way of directing my path, so I called the 800 number and I was sent to the voice mail of a case manager. Low and behold a case manager called me back in less than an hour. That was different for me, and I liked that a lot. I was pleasantly surprised by CTCA. I wanted to go there even though it was miles and miles away.
